PTEN IT IS IN THE MONTH OF MARCH THAT YOU START TO FEEL THOSE FIRST DAYS OF HEAT, THE FIRST FLOWERS TO BLOOM AND FINALLY, WE LOOK AT OUR GARDENS AGAIN. RENOVATION SEEMS TO BE THE WATCHWORD, WITH A GREAT DEAL OF CLEANLINESS. Each one knows their garden better than anyone but we always want to renovate those areas closer to the house. Social spaces are those where we spend the most energy and resources. But, what if we want to plan our garden from scratch, where should we start? Analysing the terrain is the first step, the natural conditions of the space will dictate a lot of what we can do and we must consider that everything that goes against these pre- existing characteristics will increase the cost of implementing our ideas. For terrains with some unevenness, a topographic study is essential. 515253 The study of quotas is a must, not only for the implementation of any green space but also for understanding the natural runoff of rainwater and how it can impact our space. Minimising the impermeable areas of our garden as much as possible is the most environmentally friendly attitude. Requirements such as support walls must be implemented with a specialist technician. Having a plan for our garden, you should start by analysing the space, the best and least favourable areas, existing micro Para terrenos com algum desnível um estudo topográfico é essencial. Tendo um plano do nosso jardim começamos por analisar o espaço, as zonas melhores e 54 climates and problems to be solved, soil and ground conditions, desirable views and those we want to disguise, whether specialised machinery is required or not, how it accesses the garden, among other issues such as, an eventual authorisations from neighbours or condominiums. What do we want from our garden? What are the objectives for this space? These are the next questions. Taking into account the existing conditions and characteristics of a space, a garden must also as menos favoráveis, micro climas existentes e problemas a solucionar, condições do terreno e do solo, vistas desejáveis e as que queremos disfarçar, exigência ou não de maquinaria es- pecializada e de como esta acede ao jardim, entre outras questões, nomeadamente even- tuais autorizações necessárias de vizinhos ou condomínios. O que queremos do nosso jardim? Quais são os objetivos para este espaço? São as próximas questões Tendo em conta as condições e características 55 be adapted to our lifestyle. It is not advisable to implement a very demanding space in terms of maintenance if we know in advance that we will not be able to provide that level of care. One of the greatest riches of a space are those elements that distinguish it from the others. That object or structure that belongs and makes it unique and original. One of the functions of Garden Design and garden planning is the insertion of these elements in the design phase, during the renovation of spaces, raising their potential, enriching their ecology and aesthetic beauty. Uma das funções do Garden Design e planeamento de um jardim é a inserção destes elementos na fase de projeto, durante a renovação dos es-56 subjective, but basically it is the combination of these factors, combining these elements in an aesthetically attractive space and with an interesting concept. The concept behind the design of a space is not something that should be ignored, this is the guiding line of all the choices that we will make, from the materials to plants, textures and colors, structures and complements have here something that unifies them and helps to create a sense of fluidity. The meaning of concept (from the Latin conceptus, which means “to contain completely”, “to form within itself”), is what the mind conceives or understands: an idea or notion, general and abstract representation of a reality. It can also be defined as a semantic unit, a mental symbol or a “knowledge unit”. A concept generally corresponds to a representation in a language or symbolism. Um conceito corresponde 57 Our garden will be the representation of a concept, a set of elements, buildings and plants that represent an idea. And it is this idea that unifies, it is this element that sometimes even without previous knowledge makes the spaces work and pleasant to be in, it was because there was a guiding line from start to finish when implementing the design and the different choices. This is sometimes easy to forget when it comes to solving more practical situations, but if we don’t have a concrete and global idea, we don’t know where to “walk to” and the results are then a collection of small spaces that have nothing to do with each other for lack of this encompass vision. From this phase we started to study the various areas of the garden that we want to have or that are pre-existing and we want to take advantage of them. In the next digital magazine Tudo Sobre Jardins we will talk about outdoor kitchens and barbecue areas, don’t miss it! geralmente a uma representação numa lin- guagem ou simbologia. Na próxima revista digital Tudo Sobre Jardins iremos falar em cozinhas de exterior e zonas de churrasco, não perca!58 SOCIAL MEDIA SITE-SCALE LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE DESIGN: A CASE STUDY OF SEATTLE FREEWAY PARK PROJETO DE ARQUITETURA PAISAGÍSTICA À ESCALA LOCAL: UM CASO DE ESTUDO DO SEATTLE FREEWAY PARK BY BO ZHANG, ASLA, OKLAHOMA STATE UNIVERSITY AND YANG SONG, NORTH DAKOTA STATE UNIVERSITY Text/Texto: Catarina Gonçalves | Photos/Fotos: ASLA Marion Brenner landscape | paisagismo l59 AS REDES SOCIAIS SÃO UMA ÁREA DE RÁPI- DO CRESCIMENTO NOS ESTUDOS AMBI- ENTAIS QUE AJUDAM A ENTENDER AS OPI- NIÕES PÚBLICAS E O USO DOS ESPAÇOS.
