Lisbon was recognized with the Euro- pean Green Capital award in 2020. The award is given to Europe an cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants, who have demonstrated efforts in adopting policies and strategies that improve environmental stand- ards and that promote development for the future. Lisbon has long been positioned as a greener city, having been the first capital in Europe to sign the New Covenant of Mayors for Climate Change and Energy in 2016, after achieving a 50% reduction in C02 emissions ( 2002- 14), reducing energy consumption by 23% and water consumption by 17% between Lisboa foi reconhecida com o galardão de Capital Verde Europeia em 2020. Lisbon is also the first city in southern Europe to receive this distinction, which results from the evaluation of a set of international experts on 12 aspects, which aim to assess sustain- ability in the city. Within the scope of this distinction there is a series of events taking place in the capital during this year, we have selected three im- portant events to mark on your agenda: 3/21/2020 CCB Vertical Garden Inauguration Spring arrives in the best way at the CCB with the inau- guration of the new vertical garden. With 17 meters in height and an area of 250 m², this garden will consist of 7524 pots of various plants chosen by the architect Francisco Caldeira Cabral, designer of the CCB’s out- door and green spaces. 01 to 03/04/2020 Urban Future Global Conference The Urban Future Global Conference is Europe’s largest event for sustainable cities. It is the place to meet the most inspiring “City Changers” from around the world. Cities are the key to the sustainability of our planet, and it is essential to combat climate change and social in- equality here, with profound changes. But is technology the solution? We think the solution is in the people. 05/13/20/2020 Think of an Agri-food Park for the Lisbon Metropolitan Area The food supply of cities is probably one of the key topics to be considered in urban strategies at the global level. The concept of Agro-food Park (PA) has been considered in Europe as an active planning tool in peri-urban land- scapes, being able to integrate different components of the food system and providing multifunctional services in an innovative way. The Metropolitan Area of Lisbon has adequate conditions for the production of food and ecosystem services where a PA must respond to innova- tive urban-rural development solutions. energia em 23% e o consumo de água em 17% entre 2007 e 2013.
